Brave, a decentralized blockchain-based web browser has beat out major rival browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Opera in the Japanese Google Play rankings.

Brave beats rival browsers

It has been reported that according to a Reddit post on Sept. 8, this is the first time that the privacy-focused Brave browser has overtaken its rival browsers in Japan. The most current ranking data from Google Play shows that it sits comfortably at number 10 on the list, while Firefox, its closest competitor lags behind, occupying 14th place.

A Google Play ranking is decided by how well the apps perform against several key metrics such as Crash Rates, App-Not-Responding Rates, Excessive WiFi, Location or Processing in the Background.

In keeping with a screenshot within the Reddit submit, Brave was downloaded 2 million times last month, while Firefox only saw 553,000 downloads.

The browser tries to win the marketplace from traditional browsers by tokenizing positive facets of the internet browser experience for users. Brave users can earn the browser’s native Basic Attention Token (BAT) by watching advertisements and claiming grants. The token can subsequently be used to tip content creators on sites like Reddit and Vimeo
