BTC has been declared as a reward for The Liberty Bitcoin Cup, the sailing contest.
Bitcoin is the most sought-after digital asset in the digital space. Accruing the name of a digital store of value with scarce supply, it shares a similar value with Gold, which attains a perpetual store of value. Sustaining the trend, the Liberty Bitcoin Cup offers Bitcoin (BTC) as a competition prize instead of a gold trophy.
As per the Liberty Bitcoin Cup‘s website:
The Liberty Bitcoin Cup is the prime cup for the Next Generation of World Class Sailors, competing on the Next Generation of High Tech Class Foil Sailing boats. Where traditionally Gold Cups were the premier Cups in traditional sailing, this next generation is now powered by the Next Generation of gold – Bitcoin.
The Liberty Bitcoin Cup was founded by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC), Rune Jacobsen, Max Dubreuil and CMCC Global, the company behind the Liberty Bitcoin Fund.

Addressing the plastic waste goals, the website further says:
The Liberty Bitcoin Cup will be managed and governed by leading yacht clubs, with significant influence from youth sailors and youth teams. We aspire to make leading edge foiling accessible and affordable for youth teams from around the world. Together we are working hard to host truly pinnacle events at the lowest cost possible for participating yacht clubs and youth teams.
Comprising of young competitors, the event will be open for individuals born between 1st January 1996 and 15th February 2003. The event will have a total of 3 qualifying events before the final match in Hong Kong, where two teams from each event, and 3 teams from the last qualifying event, total comprising of 5 teams will then compete in the Liberty Bitcoin Cup final match. The winning team will merit the grand prize of 1 Bitcoin.
The first qualifying event took place in Gaeta, Italy on 10-12 March,2021, whose winning team, Team DutchSail – Janssen de Jong, will go straight to the Liberty Bitcoin Cup final match in Hong Kong in 2022.
As per the Liberty Bitcoin Cup’s Press Release, Managing Partner and Co-Founder at CMCC Global, Martin Baumann said:
It was impressive to see the next generation of World Class sailors competing fiercely to win a place in the finals in Hong Kong. Team DutchSail – Janssen de Jong did incredibly well and is the first team to secure its place in the finals in the race to win the Bitcoin
