India recently organized Singapore–India Hackathon 2019 on 28-29 September which took place at The Indian Institute of Technology in Madras (IIT-Madras) in collaboration with Singapore’s Nanyang Technical University (NTU).
‘The themes of the competition included good health and well-being, quality education and affordable, clean energy.’

Startups in India
India has startup-friendly ecosystems while focusing on innovation and incubations through several programs that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cited as the foundation of 21st century India. These includes:
Prime Minister of India Modi delivered a speech during the prize distribution ceremony while stating that ‘innovations and startups will play significant roles to help India achieve its economic goal of reaching US$5 trillion in its economic valuation.’ while adding:
“The country is trying to promote modern technologies like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and blockchain among students from as early as the sixth grade to create an ecosystem that becomes a medium for innovation.”
Modi also explained that India is promoting innovation for two reasons, stating:
“One is we want easy solutions to solve India’s problems to make life easier. And another we in India want to find solutions for the whole world. India solutions for global application, this is our goal and our commitment.”
Global Applications and Solutions
Prime minister Modi proposed a hackathon that includes ASEAN member states to seek sustainable and effective solutions to global warming and climate change issues.
Last year, in November, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the All India Council for Technical Education worked with Singapore’s NTU to organize a 36-hour competition dubbed as ‘Smart Campus.’
The hackathon hosted 20 teams of three university students, each from India and Singapore.
