The Californian Couple has further propelled the use case of blockchain’s immutability characteristic, hence immortalizing their marriage on the Ethereum blockchain. The Coinbase employees, Rebecca Rose and Peter Kacherginsky have shared their story of using Ethereum’s blockchain to lock the knots, hence become lawfully wedded.
On April 3, Rose posted to Twitter to announce that the pair had tied the knot on March 14.

Infusing the traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, Kacherginsky wrote an Ethereum smart contract by the name “Tabaat”, which is a Hebrew word for ring. The contract happened to issue tokenized “rings” NFTs in the form of TBT tokens to the couples wallets. On March 10, Kacherginsky created a smart contract which was about 2,218 line-long that cost about 0.25 ETH, roughly $450 as reported by Cointelegraph.

Three more transactions were sent from Tabaat platform, of around $537 to tokenize the marriage contract. Each transaction had an additional cost of 0.0048 ETH or $87. In any which way the ceremony consisted of two transactions, that included the transfer of the NFT ‘rings’ from the contract to Rose and Kacherginsky. Summing up, the ceremony took about 4 minutes to be validated by the Ethereum network, where the miner fees were charged around $50.
On average, a physical wedding in the United States costs roughly $25,000.The NFTs displayed an animation of two circles amalgamating to become one, which was illustrated by artist Carl Johan Hasselrot. On Twitter, Rose said:
The blockchain, unlike physical objects, is forever. It is unstoppable, impossible to censor, and does not require anyone’s permission. Just as love should be. What could possibly be more romantic than that.
